Classic Country Refresh

This beautiful bath started by taking cues from the Master Bedroom, the Homeowner brought in her bedding to pick carpet and paint colors and then we veered off the original path when I said “how about doing blue cabinetry?” (they were going to be white), the rest they say: is history. This calm blue cabinetry with the beaded door panels pays a perfect compliment to the sandy tones of the floor, giving a nod to a beach getaway, even while at home.

Black Stainless appliances are really gaining ground as a popular finish for kitchen appliances. The benefits of Black Stainless are that they are new, and unique, they also do not show fingerprints as readily as traditional stainless steel appliances. If you aren’t fond of brushed nickel faucets and cabinet hardware it allows you to introduce either pewter or oil rubbed bronze finishes. It is nice to have options when selecting appliances.

When a kitchen is shaped to accommodate a square island I am so happy. The reason this makes me happy is that I get to give my Client a very personal, intimate dining/work space. When seated at a square island you can actually see the person sitting adjacent to you. A long island, while impressive, gives you more of a “birds on a fenceline” type of vibe. I also love that you can place a decorative in the center and for the most part, it is not in the way. T-shaped islands and dog leg islands also have their place in kitchen design, it just depends on the available space.

This project brought the challenge of modernizing a family farmhouse passed down through generations. To honor the history, the client required that we preserve original built-ins and wood trims. In the kitchen, they choose soft white perimeter cabinetry and highlighted the island in cherry with a truffle stain. The vintage hand scraped hardwood hickory floors served to blend with the new and give a nod to the historical.
